Asian leopard cats are the most common cat in southern Asia. They are roughly the size of domesticated cat, ranging from 6 to 15 pounds, but the legs of the Asian leopard cat are typically longer. There are eleven subspecies of Leopard Cat classified according to their wide geographic dispersal. The name "Leopard Cat" is derived from the leopard like spots prevalent in all subspecies but its relation to the Leopard is distant as the Leopard is a member of a different genus. On average the leopard cat is as large as a domestic cat and the chest and the lower part of the head is white. The leopard cat bears black markings that may be spotted or rosetted. The Asian Leopard Cat when mated with domestic cats produce offspring known as Bengal cats.
