The relative simplicity of the lyrics and the sing-along friendly repetition of the chorus at the end of each verse make the song decent radio fodder. Yet Dylan always has a couple tricks up his sleeve. The narrator speaks about the woman in the third person she all the way until the end, when he suddenly changes to the more personal second person you. This shift starts in the bridge just before the last verse, which serves to clue the listener in on the change. The shift adds a lot to the song, makes the song much more personal, much more direct.

Gerald Tilson, a finance executive, finds himself thrown out by his wife when she discovers women's underwear in their flat; in fact the clothes belong to him.
